Week 38 - Bon Bons

Hi there, this weeks block is a lovely one that I have seen pop up in my Instagram and Facebook feed the last couple of weeks. I’m not sure what it’s name is but I have called it the Bon Bon Block.

Nice and easy block with the combination of techniques we have made many times in this sew along. It really helps to lay out the whole block the make sure you sew the right fabric combination together.

By now I’m sure you’ve noticed that I have a red and cream colour way going for my 6” blocks. A few years ago I saw the book Red and White Quilts: Infinite Variety. Oh dear goodness, when I saw this book I was in absolute awe. The owner of this collection, Joanna S. Rose wanted something she hadn’t seen before for her 80th birthday (2011) - her collection of red and white quilts all displayed together. Oh how I wish I could have seen this.

“The American Folk Art Museum dramatically transformed the Park Avenue Armory’s historic 55,000-square-foot Wade Thompson Drill Hall with the installation of 650 red and white American quilts, all of which were on loan from the collection of Joanna S. Rose. It was the largest exhibition of quilts ever held in the city. As an extraordinary gift to the public, entry to this unprecedented event was free. This magical but ephemeral moment will ultimately be captured in the pages of a fully illustrated catalog co-published by the American Folk Art Museum and Rizzoli in late 2015.”

So, my love of red and white quilts continues and I will carry on - not expecting to get anywhere near 651 but wouldn’t that be delightful.

Click here The American Folk Art Museum, click on the “Installation” image and view all. What a treat.

Do you have a favourite colour combination that you keep going back to?

Have a fantastic week and I’ll see you back here next Wednesday, Christine
